Frequently Asked Questions

How long do murals last?

Yes, murals last a very long time! We use high-quality acrylic paints that are extremely durable. The longevity really comes down to the pigment quality and materials we use. Acrylic paint doesn't just break down over time.

Do murals need a sealant?

Most of the time, no. However, if your mural is in a high-traffic area or somewhere prone to graffiti, a protective coating is a good idea. Preparation and quality materials are what really help a mural stand the test of time. If you need scuff-proof protection, just mention this to us during planning!

How do I maintain my mural?

Murals are really easy to take care of! Use a light feather duster to dust them off every so often—this helps with dust, hair, and anything that might cling to the surface. You can also gently wipe them down. Just avoid spraying chemicals directly on the mural.

Can I have a mural next to a pool?

Absolutely! As long as it's at an appropriate distance from the water. We use waterproof and aquatic-level paints for these types of projects.

Can you paint on the ground or asphalt?

Yes! We can paint on asphalt for things like playground games, parking lot branding, or any ground-level designs you have in mind.

Do you do interior murals?

Yes! We paint murals inside school buildings, businesses, and homes. We do both exterior and interior designs.

Do you only do colorful murals?

We love vibrant, colorful patterns, but we've also done several black and white murals. We're flexible!

Can I see a mockup before the mural is painted?

Yes! We can create a mockup so you can visualize what your project will look like on the wall. There is a drawing fee for this service, but it's a great way to make sure you love the design before we start.

Do you travel for projects?

We're based out of Central Virginia, but we've crossed into North Carolina and even gone up to DC. We don't mind traveling for a good project—just keep in mind that travel will be factored into the budget. But really, who's putting a price on uniqueness?

Do I need to prep the wall first?

It's best to have a primed wall rather than painting directly over old paint, especially if there's a satin or gloss finish. We recommend using Kilz primer and sanding the wall down for the best results.

What if I have equipment or supplies on-site?

We're happy to use maintenance supplies you already have, like lifts or ladders. This helps save on rental costs!

Can I document the mural process?

Yes! We work with photographers to document our projects, and if you're interested in being part of the progress (photos, videos, social media), just let us know ahead of time. We encourage social media posting for all our projects and don't mind videos—just ask first!

Are there things you won't paint?

Yes, some projects don't align with our values, which is why we always recommend reaching out first to discuss your idea. Check out our gallery to get a sense of the kind of work we do and the partnerships we've built over the last decade.

Do you restore or revitalize old murals?

Yes! We help bring old murals back to life. Keep in mind, it's more about revitalizing than an exact restoration—we usually need to repaint most of it, so it won't look exactly like the original. But we can incorporate the old details, colors, and subject matter while bringing it into the present with a fresh look. The new artist's style will naturally come through, but we get as close as possible to honoring the original vision.

Do you handle graffiti removal or cover-ups?

Yes! We've been called out to cover up graffiti with new art. Sometimes clients want the graffiti completely removed, and other times it actually inspires them to create something new. We're flexible and can work with whatever direction you want to go.

Do you run contests?

Yes! We host contests from time to time, mostly to support our partnerships with nonprofits and community organizations.

Is there a media kit available?

Yes! If you need information on the artist or materials to share for your project, we have a media kit available.

Awards & Recognition

We've won many local awards and get nominated often for our contributions to the arts in our community. Our work is featured in museums, and artist Christina Davis was named Best Artist of 2025 and has numerous awards for being an exceptional visual artist and educator.

What payment methods do you accept?

We use Square, so you can pay with a variety of methods including credit/debit cards, direct transfers, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. All your receipts are saved in your email—no more lost paperwork, and we're cutting down on paper waste too!

How does the payment schedule work?

Payments are broken down based on the project schedule. Each payment covers specific steps like ordering supplies, creating mockups, and completing phases of the work. Everything is clearly outlined so you know exactly what you're paying for and what's being done.

What's your refund policy?

All sales are final—no refunds or returns. Everything we do is labor-intensive and custom, so once a service is ordered and completed, it's complete. This isn't like ordering a product we can return to stock. That said, if an emergency happens during the project (building closure, medical emergency, etc.), we'll reschedule, but we won't issue a full refund since supplies have already been purchased. If a client cancels, we won't charge any additional fees beyond what's already been paid.

Is maintenance included in the price?

No, maintenance is an additional fee. Feel free to ask us about it, but it's not included in the initial sale price.

Do you offer warranties?

We don't offer warranties, but our work is covered by insurance. Since murals are considered works of art, you can include them in your rental or property insurance policy. If anything happens to the mural for reasons outside the artist's control (vandalism, weather damage, etc.), that's something your insurance can cover.

Can you provide certificates of insurance?

Yes! If you need certificates of insurance for your project, we can definitely provide those.

Do you share receipts for supplies or ordering information?

No, we handle all our own supply orders. You won't need to worry about that part—we take care of it.

Do you work on large public art projects?

Yes! For larger projects like public installations, grant writing is usually the best route. We'll meet several times to discuss fundraising, and once funds are raised, we'll move forward with planning and completing the installation.

What about safety on the job site?

Safety is very important to us! We label all work phases and areas clearly. For your protection, we don't encourage clients to assist with the painting or services—our insurance coverage doesn't extend to clients helping out, so please understand that you and our team need to remain separate entities during the work.

What is your harassment policy?

We have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind. This includes yelling, inappropriate phone calls, texts, or any other form of harassment. We're committed to maintaining a respectful and professional work environment for everyone involved.

Do you promote completed projects?

Yes! We love sharing and promoting your business or organization. We'll email updates, post on social media, and let the community know about new businesses or revitalization projects in the area. It's all about keeping everyone in the community supporting the arts and local efforts. Any additional promotional services beyond what's already included may have extra fees.

Do you work with volunteers or interns?

Yes! We love working with college and high school students looking for hands-on experience. They can send us their information along with a few pieces of their artwork. When a project becomes available, we'll send out invitations to apply based on dates and availability.
